Booge is a small, quiet place in Minnehaha County, South Dakota, in the United States. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes or buildings that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government.

Booge is located along an important railway line used by the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway. It's also about halfway between two other places: Garretson, South Dakota and Manley, Minnesota.

Where is Booge Located?

Booge can be found at 43°38′45″N 96°27′36″W / 43.645806°N 96.460041°W / 43.645806; -96.460041. It's quite close to the border with Minnesota.

You can find Booge about 2+12 miles (4.0 km) north of Interstate 90. This big highway runs across South Dakota. Booge is also located on County Road 130 (CR 130). If you travel about one mile (1.6 km) west, you'll reach Minnesota State Highway 23.

How Booge Got Its Name

Booge was named after a person! On January 21, 1891, the community was named after C. A. Booge. He was an important official for the Sioux City and Northern Railroad Company.

Mr. Booge played a key role in making sure the railroad line was built and extended into South Dakota. Because of his efforts, the community was given his name.
