You can find Manley about a mile south of Interstate 90. It's on Rock County Road 17, which is like an extension of Minnesota State Highway 23. It's also about a mile east of Valley Springs, South Dakota. Other nearby places are Beaver Creek and Hills. Manley is located in specific parts of Beaver Creek Township, known as sections 35 and 36.
A Look Back: Manley's History
The community of Manley was first planned out in October 1889. It even had its own post office for a while, from 1890 until 1914.
Manley got its name from a man named W. P. Manley. He was a cashier at the Security National Bank in Sioux City, Iowa. He also owned shares in the Sioux City and Northern Railway. Today, Manley is still home to a service station and a railroad crossing that shares the community's name.
