A boomslang

A boomslang is a large, venomous snake found in Africa. Its name means "tree snake" in Dutch and Afrikaans. These snakes are known for their amazing camouflage, helping them blend into trees.

What Boomslangs Eat

Boomslangs are carnivores, meaning they eat other animals. They hunt for small creatures like chameleons, frogs, and birds. They also enjoy eating eggs. Like all snakes, boomslangs do not chew their food. Instead, they swallow their prey whole.

Boomslang Venom and Safety

The venom (poison) of a boomslang is very powerful. It stops your blood from clotting properly. This can make you bleed easily from different parts of your body. If someone is bitten, they might feel a headache, nausea (feeling sick to your stomach), and sleepiness.

It is very important to get medical help right away if you think you have been bitten. There is a special medicine called an antidote that can help. Luckily, boomslangs usually only bite humans if they feel threatened or attacked. They prefer to avoid people.
