Borensberg is a charming town located in Motala Municipality, Östergötland County, Sweden. In 2010, about 2,886 people lived here. It's found about 15 kilometers (9 miles) east of Motala. The town sits right next to the famous Göta kanal and a beautiful lake called Boren. Borensberg is also home to some factories, including Arla Plast, which makes plastic sheets.
Borensberg's Story
The town of Borensberg has a long history. Its first name was Husbyfjöl. People first wrote about it on April 17, 1307. This means the town is over 700 years old! It was an important place because it had a bridge on the old road between Skänninge and Örebro. There was even a pub here during the time of Queen Christina of Sweden.
The building of the Göta Canal had a huge effect on Borensberg. This canal, which connects Sweden's east and west coasts, brought a lot of changes and growth to the town.
Borensberg used to be its own municipality. This was formed in 1952 when three smaller areas joined together. However, since 1971, Borensberg has been part of Motala Municipality.
Fun Things to Do
One of the most popular events in Borensberg is the Husbyfjöl market. This fun market happens every year. You can visit it on the first Saturday of September. It's a great chance to see local crafts and enjoy the town's atmosphere.
Getting Around Borensberg
It's easy to travel to and from Borensberg. Several bus lines serve the town. These include Östgötatrafiken's lines 520, 52, and 53, which connect to Linköping and Motala. Line 51 goes between Linköping and Borensberg. If you need to fly, the closest airport is Linköping/Saab Airport. It's only about a 35-minute drive away.
