Boris Aleksandrovich Balashov (born December 7, 1927 – died January 20, 1974) was an important Soviet journalist and editor. He is most famous for being the Editor-in-Chief of the magazine "Filateliya SSSR". This magazine was all about philately, which is the study and collecting of stamps, in the Soviet Union.
A Life in Journalism
Boris Balashov was born in 1927 in the city of Saratov, which was part of the Soviet Union. His family was involved in factory work. He started working at a young age in a Saratov factory. There, he worked as a planer and later as an electrician.
After finishing his studies at Saratov State University, Boris Balashov began working for the Komsomol. This was a large youth organization in the Soviet Union. He held important leadership roles there. He was a division head for the Komsomol in the Saratov region. He also became the editor of a local youth newspaper called “Komsomolets”.
From 1958 to 1961, he moved to central Komsomol offices. He first led the Press Section. Later, he became a deputy head in the division that handled public information.
In the later part of his career, Boris Balashov became a deputy editor and then an Editor-in-Chief. He worked for three different Soviet magazines. Most notably, he was the Editor-in-Chief for "Filateliya SSSR". He led this popular stamp collecting magazine from 1968 until his death in 1974.
