A Look at His Life
Boris Klyuyev was born in Moscow, a big city in Russia. He grew up near a famous area called the Patriarch Ponds. When Boris was just four years old, his father, Vladimir Klyuyev, sadly passed away from a heart attack. This made things financially tough for his family. Because of this, Boris started working at a young age. By 13, he was helping to unload wagons, and at 16, he began working at a construction site.
After finishing school, Klyuyev decided to study acting. He joined the Shchepkin Higher Theatre School. After a year, he joined the Soviet Army and served for three years. While in the army, he even got a chance to be an extra in a big movie called War and Peace, directed by Sergei Bondarchuk. After his army service, Klyuyev went back to theatre school and finished his studies in 1969. Soon after, he was invited to join the acting group at the Maly Theatre.
Boris Klyuyev started his film career during his fourth year at theatre school. One of his first important roles was playing Vasily Shulgin in the movie The Fall of the Empire (1971). He became very famous across the country for two special roles: Comte de Rochefort in D'Artagnan and Three Musketeers (1978) and Mycroft Holmes in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson (1980).
In the 1990s, Klyuyev also started doing voice acting. He often lent his voice to characters played by famous actors like Alan Rickman, Christopher Lee, and Geoffrey Rush in Russian versions of foreign movies. In the 2010s, one of his most popular roles was playing Nikolai Petrovich Voronin. This was a grumpy but funny old man in the TV show Voronin's Family.
Boris Klyuyev was diagnosed with lung cancer in May 2018. He passed away on September 1, 2020, in Moscow. He was buried at the Troyekurovskoye Cemetery.
