The Borkou region is a large area in the country of Chad. Its main city and capital is Faya-Largeau. This region was created in 2008. It used to be part of a bigger region called Borkou-Ennedi-Tibesti.
About the Borkou Region
The Borkou region is in the northern part of Chad. It is mostly covered by the Sahara Desert. This desert is a very dry and sandy place.
In the northern part of Borkou, you can find parts of the Tibesti Mountains. These are a group of mountains formed by volcanoes. The highest mountain in all of Chad, called Emi Koussi, is located right here in Borkou. It is a huge volcano!
How Borkou is Organized
The Borkou region is split into two smaller areas called departments. Each department has its own main city.
- The first department is also called Borkou. Its capital city is Faya-Largeau.
- The second department is called Borkou Yala. Its capital city is Kirdimi.
