In 1681, a young girl named Louise Marie Anne de Bourbon passed away in the town. She was the third daughter of Louis XIV, who was the King of France. Her mother was Madame de Montespan. Louise was only six years old when she died.

Later, in 1707, Madame de Montespan herself also died at the chateau in Bourbon-l'Archambault. She was a very important lady at the French royal court.
