Bowden is a small, unincorporated community in Creek County, Oklahoma, United States. It's located about four miles north of the city of Sapulpa. Being "unincorporated" means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does.

Where is Bowden Located?

Bowden is found in the state of Oklahoma. It's specifically in Creek County. You can find it by looking for the intersection of 433rd West Avenue and West 41st Street South. This is where the community is divided.

What is Bowden's History?

From Taneha to Bowden

Bowden wasn't always called Bowden. Its original name was Taneha. The community later got its current name from a merchant named Rollandus A. Bowden. He was a well-known businessman from nearby Sapulpa.

A Boom Town's Past

Bowden grew very quickly for a while. This happened after a lot of oil was found nearby. The discovery of the Glenn Pool Oil Reserve turned Bowden into a "boom town." A boom town is a place that grows fast because of a sudden increase in jobs or resources.

The Post Office Era

For many years, Bowden had its own post office. It opened on June 9, 1909. The post office helped people send and receive mail in the community. However, it closed down on November 1, 1957.

Bowden Today

Today, Bowden is a much smaller place than it was during its oil boom days. It is now a quiet community. About 225 people live there.
