Discover Bowgada

Bowgada is a quiet place known for its farming. It is an important spot for growing crops. The town also supports raising animals like sheep.

What's in a Name?

The town was first called Chubble in 1913. This name was officially given by the government. However, it was changed to Bowgada in 1914. The name Bowgada comes from an Indigenous Australian word. It describes a type of bush that grows in the area. This bush is called Acacia ramulosa.

A Town Built on Farming

Bowgada started as a railway siding. This was a special track where trains could stop. It helped farmers transport their crops and animals. Today, farming is still very important here.

In 1932, the Wheat Pool of Western Australia made an announcement. They said that Bowgada would get two grain elevators. These are tall buildings used to store grain. Each elevator would have an engine to help move the grain. They were built right next to the railway line.

Grain Harvests

In 1939, the area had a difficult farming season. This meant that farmers did not grow as much as usual. Even so, the local grain storage bin received a lot of wheat. About 110,000 bushels of wheat were delivered. This was more than expected for a tough year. However, it was less than what they had harvested in earlier, better years.

The main business in Bowgada is wheat farming. The town has a special site for handling grain. It is a Cooperative Bulk Handling grain receival site. This means farmers can bring their harvested grain here. It is then stored and prepared for transport.
