Box Hill railway station is one of the train stations on the Johnsonville Branch line. This line is a special railway that runs north of Wellington in New Zealand. The station helps people get around the suburbs of Khandallah and Te Kainga.
Box Hill station is unique because it's the only one on the line that sits below the street level. It's also one of four stations on the line that are built on a curve. You'll usually hear it called Box Hill, but the signs on the platform say Boxhill.
Electric trains, known as Electric multiple units, use this station. They are part of the Metlink network. These trains travel in both directions: north towards Johnsonville and south towards Wellington.
Station History
Box Hill is one of the newer stations on the Johnsonville Branch line. It first opened its doors on 16 July 1956.
The Johnsonville line got some big upgrades between 2009 and 2010. As part of this work, Box Hill Station was closed for about two months. This happened from May 3, 2010. During this time, the station platform was made new and extended further south.
Train Services
Trains run through Box Hill station in both directions. During most of the day, trains leave every half hour. This means you won't have to wait too long!
On weekdays, during busy times like the morning and evening rush, more trains run. This helps everyone get where they need to go faster.
If you need to connect to a bus, the closest bus routes are #25 and #26. These buses travel through the nearby Khandallah Village.
Station Facilities
Box Hill station has a single side platform. This is where you wait for your train. There is also a shelter to keep passengers dry and out of the sun.
You can get to the station on foot from Cockayne Road. There's also a path from the north end of the platform that goes under the road bridge to Box Hill.
There isn't a special car park just for the station. So, if you're coming by car, you'll need to find parking nearby.
