BoySetsFire is an American post-hardcore band from Newark, Delaware. They formed in October 1994. The band is known for its powerful music and lyrics.

Their songs often talk about important political and social ideas. The band members are Nathan Gray (vocals), Chad Istvan (guitar), Josh Latshaw (guitar), Jared Shavelson (drums), and Chris Rakus and Robert Ehrenbrand (bass).

About the Band

BoySetsFire started by releasing their first demo recordings in 1994 and 1995. A demo is like a practice recording. In 1996, they released their first EP, which is a short album. It was called This Crying, This Screaming, My Voice Is Being Born.

In 1997, they signed with Initial Records. This record label helped them release their first full album, The Day the Sun Went Out.

Growing Popularity

Their second album, After the Eulogy, came out in 1999. After this, BoySetsFire went on tour with another band called Snapcase. They also played at the Vans Warped Tour, a big music festival.

They released special "split-EPs" with other bands. A split-EP means two bands share one album. They did this with Snapcase in 1999. They also released a tribute album for Metallica with Shai Hulud. In 2000, they released another split-EP with Coalesce.

The band then signed with Wind-up Records. This was a bigger record label. They released the album Tomorrow Come Today in 2003.

Later, in 2005, they signed with Burning Heart Records and Equal Vision Records. Their album The Misery Index: Notes from the Plague Years was released in March 2006.

Taking a Break

On July 31, 2006, the band announced they would be taking a break. They had a farewell tour in Europe. However, guitarist Josh Latshaw got hurt before the tour started.

So, a roadie named Chris "The Reverend" Rakus played guitar instead. The band returned to Europe in May 2007. This was so Josh Latshaw could say goodbye to their European fans.

The band's last show was on June 9, 2007, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A DVD of this show was released. It also included parts of their final European tour.

After the break, some band members started new projects. Nathan Gray, the lead singer, formed a new band called The Casting Out.

Coming Back Together

BoySetsFire announced they were reuniting on October 5, 2010. They started playing shows again. They performed at festivals like Groezrock in Belgium and the Nova Rock Festival in Austria.

In August 2011, they played in the UK at the Reading & Leeds Festival. Later, in November 2011, Robert Ehrenbrand left the band. Marc Krupanski joined as the new bassist.

In 2012, the band recorded five new songs. They also played five shows in the U.S. and went on a three-week tour in Europe. In December 2012, Matt and Marc Krupanski left the band.

Chris Rakus and Robert Ehrenbrand then shared bass duties. Dan Pelic joined as the new drummer.

In June 2013, the band released a two-song EP. They also released their fifth album, While a Nation Sleeps.... This album included new and re-recorded songs. It was very popular, especially in Germany.

The band toured Europe in June and July 2013. They also played in Australia in November and December 2013. In April 2014, they had concerts in the UK.

In September 2015, BoySetsFire released their sixth album, which was self-titled. They toured Europe to support this album. In Summer 2016, they toured Europe again before taking another break to work on other music.
