Post-hardcore is a type of musical genre that grew out of hardcore punk. Hardcore punk itself is a faster, louder part of the bigger punk rock movement. Post-hardcore started in the late 1980s on the East Coast of the United States.
This music style takes ideas from hardcore punk but adds more experimental sounds. It often mixes elements from emo, metal, and alternative rock. Sometimes it sounds more melodic and catchy than regular hardcore. Other times, it can be even heavier and more intense.
