Band History
Pierce the Veil was started by brothers Mike and Vic Fuentes in 2006. They had been in a band called Before Today. After that band ended, the brothers kept writing songs. They soon had enough songs for a new album. Their first album, A Flair for the Dramatic, was released on June 26, 2007. They named their new band Pierce the Veil. This name came from a song on their old band's album.
Since then, Pierce the Veil has released four more studio albums. They have also toured around the world. Their second album, Selfish Machines, came out in 2010. Their third album, Collide with the Sky, was released in 2012. This was their first album with Fearless Records. It featured the popular song "King for a Day". This album reached No. 12 on the US Billboard 200 music chart. Their fourth album, Misadventures, was released on May 13, 2016. After a break, their fifth album, The Jaws of Life, was released on February 10, 2023.
Music Style
Pierce the Veil's music mixes different styles. These include post-hardcore, pop-punk, experimental rock, emo, and metalcore.
Their first album, A Flair for the Dramatic, had elements of emo, screamo, and progressive rock. A German music magazine called their songs "complex." They compared the band to groups like Sparta and even Queen.
Their second album, Selfish Machines, was partly inspired by punk music. People compared it to bands like Emarosa and The Used. The Morning Call newspaper praised the band. They liked how Pierce the Veil mixed metal and hardcore punk with pop melodies. Their third album, Collide with the Sky, was liked for its progressive rock parts. Their fourth album, Misadventures, sounded more like pop and pop-punk. This album was compared to artists like My Chemical Romance and Panic! at the Disco. Vic Fuentes' singing has been compared to Claudio Sanchez from Coheed and Cambria.
Some people use the term "mexicore" for the band. This is because many of their songs have a Spanish feel. Vic Fuentes told Alternative Press that the band tries to add a "hint of Latin influence in every song." He described "mexicore" as "heavy music with a little Spanish feel."
