Journey of the Boyne River
The Boyne River starts its journey in the Pembina Hills. This is a hilly area in a part of Manitoba called the Central Plains. The very beginning of the river is in a field, not far from a small village named Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes.
From Hills to Towns
From its start, the river flows towards the northwest. It passes by the town of Treherne. After Treherne, it turns and heads east. The river then goes past the community of Rathwell.
Through Stephenfield Lake
The Boyne River then turns southeast and enters the Pembina Valley area. Here, it reaches a place called Stephenfield Lake. A smaller stream, Roseisle Creek, joins the Boyne River at this lake. You can find Stephenfield Provincial Recreation Park right on the lake, which is a great spot for outdoor activities.
Final Stretch to Hudson Bay
After Stephenfield Lake, the Boyne River continues its journey east. It flows through the town of Carman. Then, it turns northeast before heading east again through a channel called the Norquay Channel. The river finally meets the Morris River in the Central Plains region. The Morris River then flows into the Red River of the North. The Red River eventually joins the Nelson River, and the Nelson River carries all this water all the way to Hudson Bay.
