Brachyglottis stewartiae is a special kind of flowering plant. It's often called a tree daisy because it looks like a daisy but grows into a small tree. This plant belongs to the Asteraceae family, which is the same family as common daisies and sunflowers.
About the Stewart Island Daisy
This unique plant is found only in New Zealand. It grows especially well on New Zealand's subantarctic islands. These are islands far to the south of the main New Zealand landmass.
Where Does This Plant Grow?
Brachyglottis stewartiae is very common on the Snares Islands. On these islands, it grows alongside another tree daisy called Olearia lyallii. Together, they form a big part of the forest on the Snares Islands.
What Does It Look Like?
This tree daisy can grow quite tall, reaching about 6 meters (which is about 20 feet) in height. When it blooms, it has bright, eye-catching clusters of yellow flowers. These flowers look very much like the daisies you might see in a garden.
