Bradley Joseph Fitzpatrick (born on February 5, 1980) is an American computer programmer. He's famous for creating LiveJournal, a popular online journaling website. He also helped create many other useful computer programs, like memcached, PubSubHubbub, OpenID, and Perkeep.
Growing Up and Learning
Brad Fitzpatrick was born in Iowa, a state in the United States. He grew up in Beaverton, Oregon.
He studied computer science at the University of Washington in Seattle. Even when he was in high school, Brad was already a tech entrepreneur! He started his first company called FreeVote.com.
His Amazing Career
Brad started LiveJournal when he was a college freshman. It began as a simple online diary program he wrote for himself. Soon, it became so popular that it turned into a full-time job and then a company!
In 2005, he sold LiveJournal to another company called Six Apart. Brad then became the main architect there, helping design their software.
Later, in 2007, Brad moved to Google, a very big tech company. He worked as a Staff Software Engineer and was part of the team that created the Go programming language. This language is used to build many modern computer programs.
In 2020, Brad decided to leave Google. Just a few days later, he joined a company called Tailscale as a co-founder.
Awards and Recognition
In June 2014, Brad received a special award from the University of Washington's School of Computer Science and Engineering. This award was for his amazing achievements early in his career.
