How Braggadocio Began
Braggadocio was founded a long time ago, around the year 1847. This means it has been a community for over 170 years! A post office was opened there in 1881, which helped people send and receive mail.
What's in a Name? The Mystery of Braggadocio
The name "Braggadocio" is quite unusual, and people have wondered where it came from. There are two main ideas about its origin. One idea is that some of the first people who settled there liked to boast or "brag" a lot. Another idea is that the community was named after a character from a famous old poem called The Faerie Queene by Edmund Spenser. This character was a knight and a horse thief named Sir Braggadoccio.
Powerful Storms in Braggadocio
Braggadocio has experienced some very strong natural events. On April 2, 2006, a powerful F3 tornado struck the town. Years later, on December 10, 2021, an even stronger EF4 tornado hit the community. These powerful storms caused significant damage to the town and its buildings.
