Brandon's Golf Journey
Starting as an Amateur
Before becoming a professional, Brandon was a very successful amateur golfer. He won many tournaments in South Africa. In 2012, he was part of the South African team for the Eisenhower Trophy, which is a big international golf competition for amateurs.
Brandon also played college golf for one year at the University of Texas in the United States. During that time, he won three different events. He decided to turn professional in 2013, ready to take on bigger challenges.
Turning Professional
In 2015, Brandon started playing on the Sunshine Tour (mostly in Southern Africa) and the Challenge Tour (a step below the European Tour). He did really well on the Challenge Tour, finishing 14th overall. This success helped him qualify to play on the main European Tour.
His first professional win came in November 2015 at the Lion of Africa Cape Town Open on the Sunshine Tour. It was a great start to his professional career!
Big Wins and Achievements
Brandon quickly made a name for himself. In January 2016, in only his second tournament as a full member of the European Tour, he won the South African Open. This was a huge victory, and it was also part of the Sunshine Tour.
In July 2017, Brandon started working with a full-time caddie named Alan Burns. A caddie is someone who carries a golfer's clubs and helps them with advice during a game.
One of Brandon's most exciting wins happened in 2018 at the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open. He played an amazing final round, shooting a score of 60! This score tied the record for the lowest round ever on the European Tour. He almost shot an even lower score of 59, but he just missed a putt on the very last hole.
In April 2021, Brandon won the Limpopo Championship. This was a thrilling win because it went to a four-man playoff. A playoff happens when players are tied at the end of a tournament. Brandon won by making a birdie (a score of one stroke under par) on the first extra hole.
Brandon has won a total of 5 professional tournaments. Three of these wins were on the European Tour, and four were on the Sunshine Tour (some events count for both tours). He also won one event on the Challenge Tour.
Playing in Major Championships
Brandon has played in some of golf's biggest tournaments, known as "major championships." These include the U.S. Open, The Open Championship, and the PGA Championship. His best finish in a major was tying for 12th place at the PGA Championship in 2018. He also played in some World Golf Championships, which are events for the top golfers from around the globe.
Team Appearances
Brandon has also represented his country in team events:
- Eisenhower Trophy (representing South Africa): 2012
