Branko Kostić (Serbian Cyrillic: Бранко Костић, born August 28, 1939 – died August 20, 2020) was an important politician from Yugoslavia. He was also a successful businessman and a university professor. He played a big role in the government of Yugoslavia during a time of change.

About Branko Kostić
Branko Kostić studied economics. He earned his first degree in 1962. Later, he completed his master's degree in 1977. He then received his doctorate in 1980. All his studies were at the Faculty of Economics in Belgrade.
His Political Roles
Mr. Kostić held many important jobs in the government. These were during the time of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY).
- He was the leader of the Youth Federation of Montenegro from 1963 to 1968.
- He served as the Deputy Prime Minister of Montenegro from 1986 to 1989.
- From 1989 to 1991, he was the President of the Presidency of Montenegro. This was a very high position.
- In 1991, he was a representative in the SFRY Assembly. He also led Montenegro's group in the Council of Republics and Provinces.
- He became the Vice-President of the Presidency of the SFRY. Later, he was the acting President of the Presidency of the SFRY. This role lasted from May 1991 to June 1992.
As President of the Presidency of Montenegro, he led a special committee. This committee helped move the remains of King Nikola I Petrovic-Njegos. The king and his family were moved from San Remo, Italy, to Cetinje, Montenegro.
His Career in Business and Education
In the 1970s, Branko Kostić worked in industry. He helped make the Aluminum Combine in Titograd very successful. This was the largest company in Montenegro at that time. He worked there as an advisor. Then he became a commercial manager from 1969 to 1974. After that, he was the general manager from 1974 to 1978.
After leaving the Aluminum Combine, he started working at the University of Montenegro. He was a scientific advisor. He also helped start the Faculty of Civil Engineering. He became a full professor of economics. He taught at all the technical faculties until he retired in 2003.
Branko Kostić could speak Russian and French. He also used English. He received special awards for his work. These awards recognized his efforts to keep Yugoslavia united. They also honored his support for different ethnic groups.
