The Bras Sec valley is a place where people do forestry (cutting down trees for wood). It's also a spot for fun outdoor activities like tourism.
Usually, the river's surface freezes over from early December until the end of March. It's generally safe to walk or play on the ice from mid-December to mid-March.

About the Bras Sec River
The Bras Sec river is surrounded by other important rivers and lakes.
- To the north, you'll find Lac Vénus and Grand Lac.
- To the east, there's Lac Coupau and the Rivière du Moulin.
- To the south, you'll see the Cyriac River and Pikauba River.
- To the west, there's the Normand River.
Where the River Starts
The Bras Sec river begins at Lac Catelier. This lake is about 0.5 km (0.31 mi) long and sits at a high altitude of 671 m (2,201 ft). It's located in a forest area called the zec Mars-Moulin.
From Lac Catelier, the Bras Sec flows for about 26.2 km (16.3 mi). As it flows, it drops 341 m (1,119 ft) in height, all within the forest.
The River's Journey
The river first flows north, then turns east around a mountain. It continues to drop in height as it goes. It passes by a forest camp and makes a detour west to go around another mountain.
Later, the river turns eastward. It collects water from other smaller streams and lakes, like Le Grand Lac and Lac Vénus. Finally, it flows southeast until it reaches its mouth.
Where the River Ends
The Bras Sec river joins the Rivière du Moulin. This meeting point is near Coupau lake.
After joining the Bras Sec, the Rivière du Moulin flows for 52.7 km (32.7 mi) north. Then, its waters flow into the Saguenay River, which travels 126.1 km (78.4 mi) east. The Saguenay River eventually empties into the Saint Lawrence Estuary near Tadoussac.
Why is it Called "Bras Sec"?
The name "Bras Sec" means "Dry Arm" in English. This name comes from the fact that during very dry periods, the river can almost dry up.
The name "bras Sec" was officially given on June 29, 1983, by the Commission de toponymie du Québec, which is like a special committee that names places in Quebec.
