BraveStarr: The Movie is an exciting animated space Western film released on March 18, 1988. It was also known as BraveStarr: The Legend in Europe. This movie is like a Western, but set in outer space! It was based on the popular Filmation TV show and the Mattel action figures of the same name. It was also one of the first animated movies to use computer graphics.
The film tells the story of how a special mineral called Kerium was first discovered. Kerium is a very important resource in the BraveStarr universe. The movie shows how Galactic Marshall BraveStarr fights against the evil Tex Hex and his powerful master, Stampede. Their battles take place on the planet New Texas. BraveStarr has many allies who help him. These include J.B., a smart female judge. There's also Thirty/Thirty, BraveStarr's talking horse who can stand on two legs and fight. Deputy Fuzz is one of the Prairie People, who are the original inhabitants of New Texas. Finally, the Shaman is BraveStarr's wise mentor. He helps BraveStarr discover his amazing animal-based powers.
About BraveStarr: The Movie
BraveStarr: The Movie was released after the TV series had finished. This was different from some other animated movies based on TV shows. For example, The Secret of the Sword was made from early episodes of the She-Ra TV show.
Reception and Legacy
The movie received good reviews from critics. However, it was not a big success at the box office. It only played in theaters for weekend matinee shows in a few places. About a year after the movie came out, the animation studio Filmation closed down. BraveStarr: The Movie was one of their last big productions.
