Plot Summary
A Mysterious Sword and a New World
The Sorceress of Castle Grayskull wakes up one night. A magic sword leads her to a glowing 'Time Gate'. She knows it is the 'Sword of Protection'. The Sorceress calls Prince Adam and Cringer the tiger. She sends them through the gate. They must find the person meant to have the sword.
Adam and Cringer arrive in Etheria, a different world. They stop at an inn for food. They learn that an evil army called the Horde rules Etheria. Horde soldiers cause trouble at the inn. Adam fights them and wins. An archer named Bow helps him. Bow and his friend Kowl are part of the 'Great Rebellion'.
Joining the Rebellion
News of the fight reaches Hordak, the Horde's leader. Bow and Kowl take Adam and Cringer to the Rebellion's base. It is hidden in the Whispering Woods. They meet other Rebels there. These include Princess Glimmer, the Twiggetts, and Madame Razz. Madame Razz is a funny witch who rides a talking broom. She tells them the Horde is threatening villagers. The Horde wants the Rebels who fought at the inn to give up. Bow is ready to surrender. But Adam and Glimmer convince everyone to fight instead. They want to save the villagers.
Force Captain Adora leads the Horde. They start taking villagers away. The Rebels attack, helped by Adam and Cringer. Adam and Cringer are secretly He-Man and Battle Cat. He-Man faces Adora. The Sword of Protection glows near her. This shows she is the one he is looking for. But this distraction allows the Horde to knock He-Man out. They capture him.
Rescue and Revelation
Madame Razz uses magic to find He-Man. He is held at the Horde's prison on Beast Island. The Rebels go there to rescue him. Inside the prison, Adora questions He-Man. She agrees the sword seems meant for her. He-Man says he must give it to someone good. Adora believes the Rebels are evil. She thinks the Horde are good rulers. She admits she does not know much about life outside the Horde base. He-Man dares her to see Etheria for herself. Adora says she will think about it.
The Rebels arrive and get into the prison. They find He-Man but get captured too. Luckily, Kowl avoids capture. He frees He-Man. He-Man then frees the others and destroys the prison. Meanwhile, Adora has gone into the towns. She sees how cruel the Horde is to the citizens.
Hordak and Shadow Weaver talk about He-Man. They think he is too powerful. Adora confronts them with the Sword of Protection. She has seen the Horde's cruelty. But Shadow Weaver puts Adora into a magic sleep. This makes her forget what she learned. Shadow Weaver takes the sword. She plans to learn its secrets.
She-Ra, Princess of Power
Later, Hordak shows his new weapon, the Magna-Beam. It is powered by willpower. He plans to send the Rebel base into exile. But none of the Horde's prisoners have enough willpower. He-Man sneaks into the Horde base. He is looking for Adora. Adora thinks He-Man is the villain again. She arrests him. Hordak puts He-Man in the Magna-Beam to charge it overnight.
That night, Adora has bad dreams about He-Man. She hears a voice calling her name. She finds the Sorceress talking to her through the Sword of Protection. The Sorceress convinces Adora to help He-Man. She tells Adora that He-Man is her twin brother. The Sorceress tells Adora to hold the sword high. She must say "For the Honour of Grayskull!" Adora transforms into the powerful She-Ra, Princess of Power.
She-Ra rescues and revives He-Man. They destroy the Magna-Beam. They escape on Adora's horse, Spirit. Spirit transforms into a talking winged unicorn named Swift Wind when She-Ra is near.
Family Reunion
She-Ra tells He-Man she is his sister. He-Man is confused. He thought he had no sister. She-Ra says the "woman in the sword" told her. He-Man uses the Sword of Protection to contact the Sorceress. She explains everything.
When Adam and Adora were born, the Horde attacked Eternia. Hordak kidnapped the babies. He was helped by Skeletor, who would become He-Man's enemy. Man-At-Arms stopped the kidnapping. But Hordak escaped with Adora through a Time Gate. The Sorceress could not find where Adora went. So, she cast a spell. It made everyone on Eternia forget Adora. Only she, Man-At-Arms, King Randor, and Queen Marlena remembered. Adam grew up not knowing about his sister. He-Man believes the Sorceress's story. He happily accepts She-Ra as his sister.
They return to the Rebel camp as Adam and Adora. The Rebellion accepts Adora. They learn she was mind-controlled by the Horde. The Rebels also find out Queen Angella is a prisoner. She is the rightful ruler of Bright Moon. Adam and Adora volunteer to rescue her. As He-Man and She-Ra, they defeat Hunga the Harpy. She was Queen Angella's jailer. They free Queen Angella. She is reunited with her people, including her daughter Glimmer.
Back to Eternia and a New Mission
Adam takes Adora back to Eternia. They reunite with their parents. But Hordak finds out Adora is with the Rebels. He chases them through the Time Gate. Hordak finds himself back on Eternia. He goes to his old base, Snake Mountain. He discovers Skeletor is now the main villain there. Skeletor is not happy to see his old teacher. Skeletor agrees to help Hordak get Adora. He just wants Hordak to leave.
Skeletor and his henchmen disguise themselves as cooks. Hordak hides inside a giant cake. They sneak into the royal palace. They kidnap Adora. Man-At-Arms, Teela, and He-Man comfort the king and queen. They promise to save Adora. Skeletor then betrays Hordak. He forces Hordak back to Etheria. Skeletor plans to ransom Adora himself.
But Adora outsmarts her captors. She gets her sword back. She deals with the villains as She-Ra. Then she meets the rescue party. He-Man introduces She-Ra to the others. He helps her convince them Adora is safe. Skeletor is left complaining. He says, "A female He-Man! This is the worst day of my life!"
Adora decides to return to Etheria. She wants to help the Rebellion. Her family accepts her decision. The Sorceress sends Adora and Spirit back to Etheria. She tells them they can use the Sword of Protection to get help from Eternia. Adam and Cringer go with them. They offer to help Adora start the Rebellion.
As He-Man and She-Ra, the twins help the Rebels free Bright Moon. They learn more about She-Ra's powers. She can talk to wild animals using empathy. She can also heal Swift Wind when he is shot by the Horde. He-Man and Battle Cat then return to Eternia. She-Ra and Swift Wind decide to stay. They will remain until all of Etheria is free.
