Brayan Cortés's Football Journey

Starting Out at Deportes Iquique

Brayan Cortés was born in Iquique, Chile. He started playing as a goalkeeper when he was just five years old. At fourteen, he joined the youth team of his hometown club, Deportes Iquique.

In 2013, Brayan moved up to the main adult team. His first professional game was on March 30, 2014. It was an away match against Ñublense, where his team lost 3–0.

After his first season, Brayan became the main goalkeeper for a short time. This happened because the regular keeper, Rodrigo Naranjo, was injured. Brayan played well in several matches, even against big teams like Colo-Colo and Universidad de Chile. He made eight appearances during the 2014–15 season.

Moving to Colo-Colo

In 2018, Brayan Cortés joined Colo-Colo, one of Chile's biggest football clubs. He quickly became a key player for the team. Since joining, he has played over 160 games for Colo-Colo. He continues to be their main goalkeeper.

Playing for Chile

Chile's Under-20 Team

Brayan Cortés also played for the Chile U20 squad. He was part of the team that qualified for the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup. During the tournament, he played one game against Paraguay, which Chile won 3–2. Brayan was even named the best player of that match!

Before the World Cup in Turkey, Brayan played in some practice games. In one match against Uzbekistan, he saved a penalty kick. This helped Chile win the game. He was also part of the U20 team again in 2015 for the South American Youth Championship.

Chile's Under-23 Team

Even though he was 27, Brayan played for Chile's under-23 team in 2022. This was to help them get ready for the 2023 Pan American Games. He was one of the older players allowed to join the team. At the 2023 Pan American Games, Brayan and his teammates won a silver medal for Chile.

Chile's National Team

Brayan Cortés has also played for the main Chile national team since 2018. He has played in 24 international matches, showing his skills on the world stage.
