Breandán Ó hEithir (born January 18, 1930 – died October 26, 1990) was an important Irish writer and broadcaster. He was known for his lively writing in both the Irish language and English. He shared stories and ideas through his books, newspaper columns, and radio and TV shows.

Early Life and Education
Breandán Ó hEithir was born on Inis Mór, one of the Aran Islands in County Galway. His parents, Pádraic Ó hEithir and Delia Ní Fhlaithearta, were both national school teachers. He went to the school where they taught in Kilronan.
For his secondary school studies, he attended Coláiste Éinde (St Enda's College) in Galway. After that, he spent three years at University College Galway. However, he left college before he finished his degree.
Career as a Writer and Journalist
Breandán Ó hEithir wrote in both the Irish and English languages. People really admired his journalism because it was so original and full of life. This was especially true for his work written in Irish.
After leaving college, he spent a few years working as a traveling bookseller. He worked for an organization called Comhdháil Náisiúnta na Gaeilge. He also became an editor at Sáirséal agus Dill, which was a publishing company for Irish language books.
From 1957 to 1963, he was the Irish language editor for The Irish Press newspaper. He also wrote a regular column for The Sunday Press. He was a frequent columnist for the magazine Comhar and wrote a weekly column for The Irish Times.
Breandán Ó hEithir also worked as a journalist for Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ), which is Ireland's national broadcaster. He worked on current affairs shows like Cúrsaí and Féach.
Family Life
In 1957, Breandán Ó hEithir married Catherine von Hildebrand. They had five children together: Ruairí, Máirín, Brian, Aindriú, and Rónán. Catherine was born in Paris. Her mother, Deirdre Mulcahy, was from Sligo, Ireland. Her father, Franz von Hildebrand, was from Munich.
Breandán Ó hEithir was also related to some other famous writers from the Aran Islands. His uncles, Liam Ó Flaithearta and Tom Maidhc Ó Flaithearta, were his mother Delia's brothers. A book about Breandán Ó hEithir's life was written by Liam Mac Con Iomaire.
