Bremen (/ˈbrɛmən/ BREM-ən) is a small village in Fairfield County, Ohio, United States. In 2020, about 1,479 people lived there. Bremen is known for its history with oil and its yearly "Oil Derrick Days" celebration.
History of Bremen
Bremen was officially planned and started in 1834. The village was named after a city called Bremen in Germany.
A big discovery happened in 1907: the Bremen Oil Field. This started an "oil boom," which means a time when a lot of oil was found and drilled. This brought many jobs and money to the area. The oil boom lasted until the early 1920s.
Today, the village remembers its oil industry past. They celebrate "Oil Derrick Days" every September. It is a fun way to honor their history.
