Brenda Marshall (born Ardis Ankerson; September 29, 1915 – July 30, 1992) was an American film actress. She was known for her roles in movies during the 1940s.

Brenda Marshall's Acting Career
Brenda Marshall started her acting journey in 1937. Her first film was Wives of Tomorrow. She began using the name Brenda Marshall in the movie Espionage Agent (1939).
Starring in Big Movies
In 1940, she played the main female role in The Sea Hawk. She starred alongside the famous actor Errol Flynn. Later, she acted with James Cagney in Captains of the Clouds (1942).
Later Film Roles
Brenda Marshall appeared in The Constant Nymph in 1943. After this, she mostly retired from acting. She made only a few more films. One of these was the Western movie Whispering Smith (1948). She also played a scientist named Nora Goodrich in the film Strange Impersonation (1946).
In 1955, she appeared on the TV show I Love Lucy. She played herself and was called Mrs. William Holden. This was five years after her last movie role.

Brenda Marshall was born Ardis Ankerson on September 29, 1915. She was born in the Philippines, which was then part of the United States. Her parents were from Sweden. She had an older sister named Ruth.
Her father managed a large sugar farm. Brenda's mother passed away when Brenda was young in 1925. Brenda and her sister went to boarding school in the Philippines. They later moved to San Antonio, Texas, to finish high school. Brenda also attended college for two years in Texas.
Marriages and Children
In 1936, Brenda married actor Richard Gaines. They had a daughter named Virginia. Brenda and Richard divorced in 1940.
In 1941, Brenda married another actor, William Holden. William adopted Brenda's daughter, Virginia. Brenda and William also had two sons together. Their sons were Peter Westfield Holden (born 1943) and Scott Porter Holden (born 1946). Brenda and William divorced in 1971.
Brenda Marshall moved to Palm Springs, California, in 1971. She passed away in 1992 at the age of 76.
