Brett Morris (born 23 August 1986) is a former professional rugby league player from Australia. He was known for his speed and skill on the wing, and sometimes played as a fullback. Brett played for three different teams in the National Rugby League (NRL): the St George Illawarra Dragons, Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, and Sydney Roosters. He also proudly represented Australia on the international stage.
Brett was a star player for New South Wales in the tough State of Origin series. He also played for the NRL All Stars, Country Origin, and the Prime Minister's XIII. He won two NRL premierships during his career: one with the St. George Illawarra Dragons in 2010 and another with the Sydney Roosters in 2019. Brett Morris is one of the top try-scorers in NRL history, showing how amazing he was at crossing the try line!

Brett Morris was born in Kogarah, New South Wales. He grew up and went to school in Kiama, New South Wales, a beautiful coastal town in Australia.
Family Connections
Brett played junior rugby league for the Kiama Knights alongside his twin brother, Josh Morris. Their father, Steve Morris, was also a famous rugby league player. He played for the St. George Dragons, New South Wales, and Australia. It's clear that rugby league runs in the Morris family!
Brett's Rugby League Journey
Starting His Career (2006-2008)
Brett Morris made his first-grade debut for the St. George Illawarra Dragons in 2006. He played on the wing in a game against the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks. In his first year, he scored 12 tries in 19 matches, which was a fantastic start!
In 2007, Brett played his first game with his twin brother Josh for the Dragons. Unfortunately, he suffered a shoulder injury that cut his season short. He returned strong in 2008, playing 16 matches and scoring eight tries.
Becoming a Star (2009-2010)
The 2009 season was amazing for Brett. He scored four tries in one game against the North Queensland Cowboys. He also scored three tries in two other games. He finished the year as the top try-scorer in the NRL with 25 tries in 24 matches.
Brett was then chosen to play for Australia in the 2009 Four Nations tournament. He was the top try-scorer in that tournament too, scoring six tries in four matches. He even scored two tries in the final against England, helping Australia win!
In 2010, Brett continued his incredible try-scoring form. He scored three tries against his brother Josh's team, the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs. He also played for Australia in the Anzac Test, scoring both of Australia's tries in their win.
Later that year, Brett made his debut for New South Wales in the State of Origin series. He played on the wing in all three games. The biggest moment of 2010 was when Brett played on the wing in the 2010 NRL Grand Final. He helped the St. George Illawarra Dragons win their first premiership as a joint team, ending a long wait for their fans! He finished the season as the Dragons' top try-scorer with 20 tries.
Continued Success (2011-2014)
In 2011, Brett played for the NRL All Stars. He was also named man-of-the-match in the 2011 World Club Challenge, scoring two tries to help the Dragons win. He played for Australia and New South Wales again. In round 20, he played his 100th NRL match.
In 2012, Brett started playing more at fullback, a different position from his usual wing. He also played for NSW Country Origin. He continued to be a top try-scorer for the Dragons, with 14 tries in 23 matches.
Brett played for Australia in the 2013 Anzac Test and scored a try. He also played in all three State of Origin matches for New South Wales. In round 25, he reached another milestone, playing his 150th NRL career match. Later in 2013, Brett was part of the Australia Kangaroos squad for the 2013 Rugby League World Cup. He scored an amazing eight tries in five matches, including four tries in one game against the USA!
In 2014, Brett was chosen as captain for the Dragons' team in the 2014 Auckland Nines tournament. He scored two tries for Australia in the Anzac Test. During the State of Origin series, he bravely played on after dislocating his shoulder while scoring a try. This injury meant he missed the rest of the Origin series. He finished his time with the Dragons having played 18 matches and scored 14 tries. After the 2014 season, Brett signed a contract to join the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, reuniting with his twin brother Josh.
Time with the Bulldogs (2015-2018)
Brett made his debut for the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs in 2015, scoring a try in his first game. He faced some injuries, including a hamstring injury, but returned to play in the State of Origin series for New South Wales. He scored 9 tries in 16 matches in his first year with the Bulldogs.
In 2016, Brett had a knee injury that kept him out for four months. When he returned, he scored three tries in one game! He finished the season with 10 tries in 11 matches. In 2017, Brett played his 200th NRL career match. He also announced his retirement from representative rugby league, saying he was very proud to have played for his state and country.
Joining the Roosters and Second Premiership (2019-2021)
In 2019, Brett joined the Sydney Roosters. He started strong, scoring three tries in his first game for the Roosters in the World Club Challenge. In round 2, he scored another try but got a knee injury. He was frustrated because it was the second time he had been injured on that particular field.
Despite injuries, Brett continued to perform well. He scored a hat-trick against the Gold Coast Titans, helping the Roosters win by a huge margin. In August, Brett was voted as one of the best players of the decade for the NRL, which is a huge honor! He played on the wing in the 2019 NRL Grand Final and helped the Roosters win their second premiership in a row. He made 15 appearances and scored 7 tries that season.
In 2020, Brett's twin brother Josh also joined the Sydney Roosters, which was exciting for them both! Brett scored another hat-trick against his old club, the St. George Illawarra Dragons. He finished the season with 12 tries in 17 matches.
The 2021 season started incredibly for Brett. He scored a hat-trick in the first game and another hat-trick in the second game! This made him the first player ever to score consecutive hat-tricks in the first two rounds of the competition. In round 8, Brett had the honor of captaining the Sydney Roosters. Sadly, he suffered a serious ACL injury in that game. This injury led to Brett announcing his retirement from rugby league on June 7, 2021.
Life After Playing
After retiring as a player, Brett Morris didn't leave rugby league. He was announced as an assistant coach for the Sydney Roosters for the 2022 season, sharing his knowledge and experience with the next generation of players.
