Bretteville-sur-Dives was a small village, once known as a commune, in northwestern France. Its name means "Bretteville on the Dives river." It was located in the Calvados area, which is part of the Normandy region.
On January 1, 2017, Bretteville-sur-Dives joined with other nearby villages to form a new, larger commune called Saint-Pierre-en-Auge. This means it is no longer a separate commune on its own.

What is a Commune?
In France, a commune is like a local town or village area. It's the smallest way that France is divided for local government. Each commune has its own mayor and local council. They manage things like schools, roads, and local services for the people living there.
Sometimes, smaller communes decide to join together. They do this to share resources and work more efficiently. This is what happened with Bretteville-sur-Dives when it became part of Saint-Pierre-en-Auge.
Where Was Bretteville-sur-Dives Located?
Bretteville-sur-Dives was in the Calvados department. A department is like a county in other countries. Calvados is known for its beautiful countryside and historical sites. It is part of the larger Normandy region, which is famous for its history, including the D-Day landings in World War II.
The village was situated near the Dives river, which is where it gets the "sur-Dives" part of its name.
