Brian Roderick Banks was born on November 15, 1976. He is an American politician who served in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2013 to 2017. He later ran for the Michigan Senate in 2018.

Learning and School
Brian Banks left high school early but later earned his GED, which is like a high school diploma. He then went to Wayne State University, where he earned two degrees: a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Education. After that, he studied law at Michigan State University College of Law and earned a Juris Doctor degree, which is a law degree.
His Work and Political Journey
Starting His Career
Brian Banks's campaign website once said he worked at a law firm called Rodnick, Unger and Kaner, P.C. and was a part-time teacher at Baker College. However, someone from the law firm later said he only worked there for a few months as a law clerk.
Serving in the Michigan House of Representatives
In 2012, Brian Banks won a close election to become a member of the Michigan House of Representatives. He represented the 1st district of Michigan. He won his primary election by just 96 votes. Even though some local groups didn't support him, he won the main election.
He won again in 2014 and 2016. As the leader of the Detroit Caucus, a group of lawmakers from Detroit, he worked with Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and others to raise money for his campaigns.
Stepping Down
On February 6, 2017, Brian Banks faced legal issues and decided to step down from his position in the Michigan House of Representatives. After he resigned, the Governor of Michigan called a special election to choose someone new for his seat.
Running for Michigan Senate in 2018
In 2017, Brian Banks announced he would run for a seat in the Michigan State Senate. This was for the 2nd District. The election happened in August 2018, but he did not win.
Running for Wayne County Commission in 2022
In 2022, Brian Banks ran for a seat on the Wayne County Commission. He wanted to represent District 1. However, he lost the primary election to the current Commissioner, Tim Killeen.
Working in Business
In 2019, Brian Banks started working for Promise Schools. This company runs a school for students from kindergarten to 8th grade in the School District of the City of Highland Park. His job was to help recruit students for the school.
