Bridal Veil Falls (Niagara Falls) facts for kids

The Bridal Veil Falls is the smallest of the three waterfalls that make up Niagara Falls. It is found on the American side, in New York State. Two small islands help separate it from the other falls. Luna Island is between Bridal Veil Falls and the American Falls. Goat Island separates it from the much larger Horseshoe Falls.
Bridal Veil Falls faces towards the northwest. Its top edge, called the crest, is about 56 ft (17 m) wide. Because Luna Island is very small, Bridal Veil Falls looks a lot like the American Falls. The water first drops straight down about 78 ft (24 m). Then, it crashes down over many large rocks, called talus boulders. This leads to the Maid of the Mist pool, which is 103 ft (31 m) below. In total, the water falls about 181 ft (55 m). The top of the falls is about 508 ft (155 m) above sea level.
Visiting Bridal Veil Falls
The Cave of the Winds is a popular attraction here. It lets visitors walk right up to the bottom of Bridal Veil Falls. Imagine feeling the spray of the waterfall! A special bridge connects Goat Island to Luna Island. This bridge is just a few yards upstream from where the water starts to fall.
Other Names for the Falls
Over time, this waterfall has had other names. In the past, people also called it Luna Falls. Sometimes, it was known as Iris Falls.
