Inside the Bridge Pavilion

The Bridge Pavilion (also known as Pabellón Puente in Spanish) is a special building in Zaragoza, Spain. It was designed by a famous architect named Zaha Hadid from the UK and Iraq. This building was a main landmark for the Expo 2008, which was a big world fair held in Zaragoza.

The Bridge Pavilion is a unique bridge that is 280 meters (about 919 feet) long. It looks like a beautiful flower called a Gladiolus as it crosses over the Ebro river. This bridge connects the La Almozara neighborhood to the Expo site, acting as the main entrance for visitors.

What makes this bridge even more special is that it's also an exhibition area with multiple levels. During the Expo 2008, many people visited it. About 10,000 visitors were expected to come through every hour!

Building Design and Materials

Zaha Hadid chose a special material for the outside of the Bridge Pavilion. She used a type of fibre glass reinforced concrete called fibreC, made by an Austrian company. The building's outer skin is covered with 29,000 triangles of this material. These triangles come in different shades of grey, giving the building a very modern and interesting look.

What Happened After the Expo?

During the Expo 2008, the Bridge Pavilion hosted an exhibition called Water – a unique resource. This show was designed by a company called Ralph Appelbaum Associates. It taught visitors about the importance of water.

After the Expo finished, the building was bought by a local savings bank called Ibercaja. Now, the Bridge Pavilion is used as a place for different exhibitions and events. It continues to be an important and beautiful landmark in Zaragoza.
