Bridgnorth Castle is an old castle found in the town of Bridgnorth, located in Shropshire, England. It has a long and interesting history, even though it is mostly in ruins today.
History of Bridgnorth Castle
The castle was first built in 1101 by a powerful lord named Robert de Belleme. He was known for being a very strict ruler.
During the English Civil War in 1646, the castle became a battleground. Oliver Cromwell and his army attacked Bridgnorth. The fighting was intense, and the town itself caught fire. After a three-week siege, Cromwell's forces won. In 1647, Cromwell ordered the castle to be pulled down so it could not be used again.
Today, one of the most interesting things about the castle's remains is how much it leans! The main tower leans at an angle that is four times steeper than the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa.
