Who Was Ebenezer Brigham?

Brigham County Park is named after Ebenezer Brigham. He was the very first European person to live permanently in Dane County. Brigham was an important leader in Wisconsin's early days.

He served as a colonel during the Black Hawk War, which was a conflict in the 1830s. He also played a big part in the government of Wisconsin when it was still a territory.

How the Park Was Formed

Ebenezer Brigham and his family owned a lot of land in the area. They decided to donate their land to the county. This generous gift is how Brigham County Park was created!

Today, a special historical marker in the park tells the story of Brigham and his family. It reminds everyone about their important role in making the park possible. Even Blue Mound State Park, which is nearby, was also created from land that once belonged to the Brigham family.

Discover East Blue Mound

Brigham County Park is home to a special place called East Blue Mound. This spot is the highest point in all of Dane County, reaching 1,489 feet (454 m) high!

East Blue Mound is like a partner to the taller Blue Mound. Blue Mound is the highest point in southern Wisconsin. These two mounds are so important that they gave the nearby village of Blue Mounds its name!
