What is Brighton Like?
Brighton sits high up in the mountains at the very top of Big Cottonwood Canyon. It covers a large area of about 16 square miles. Even though it's a big area, not many people live there all year round. In 2018, it was estimated that only about 180 to 260 people called Brighton home.
This town is a popular spot for skiing and snowboarding. It's home to two well-known ski resorts: the Brighton Ski Resort and the Solitude Mountain Resort. These resorts attract many visitors who love winter sports.
Brighton's Story
People first started settling in the Brighton area way back in 1871. For a long time, it was just a small community without an official town government.
However, things changed in 2018. On November 6, 2018, the people living in Brighton voted to become an official town. This decision took effect on January 1, 2020, making Brighton an incorporated town. The community also had its own post offices for some years, first from 1889 to 1905, and then again from 1946 to 1953.
Weather in Brighton
Brighton experiences a special kind of weather because it's so high up in the mountains. It has a cold continental climate. This means it has dry summers and very snowy winters. If you love snow, Brighton is a great place to be!
