Brigitte Birnbaum facts for kids
Brigitte Birnbaum (born on May 29, 1938) is a German author. She is best known for writing books, especially for children and young people.
Her Life Story
Brigitte Birnbaum was born in a town called Elbing. This town was in a region known as East Prussia. It was located near the coast, between the cities of Danzig and Königsberg.
World War II began shortly after her first birthday. In 1945, her family had to leave their home. They moved to Mecklenburg, a region in northern Germany. This area later became part of East Germany (the German Democratic Republic).
Brigitte completed her school leaving exams. These exams are important for going to university. After school, she started training to be an assistant pharmacist. This means she learned to help out in a pharmacy.
Later, she studied literature for three years. She attended the German Institute for Literature in Leipzig. After finishing her studies, she worked as a dealer of old, valuable books.
Brigitte started writing books for children in the early 1960s. From 1960 to 2003, she lived in Schwerin. She worked as a full-time writer from 1968 onwards. In 2003, she moved to Hamburg for ten years. After that, she moved back to Schwerin.
