About Brigitte Haas

Brigitte Haas was born in Vaduz, Liechtenstein, on 27 December 1964. She grew up in a town called Schaan. She completed her business training between 1980 and 1983. Later, she earned a special high school diploma (Type E federal matura) from 1987 to 1990. She then studied law at the University of Zurich from 1995 to 2001, earning a law degree.
Her Career Journey
Brigitte Haas worked in the Liechtenstein National Administration for many years. From 1984 to 1990, she was an assistant and clerk. She also helped train new apprentices from 1995 to 2000. For a few years, from 1991 to 1995, she was the personal assistant to the chief of police.
After that, she joined the Liechtenstein Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LIHK). She was the Deputy Managing Director from 2001 to 2019. Then, she became the Managing Director of LIHK, a role she held from 2019 until 2025.
Entering Politics
Brigitte Haas became a member of the leadership team (presidium) for the Patriotic Union (VU) political party in 2025. The previous Prime Minister, Daniel Risch, decided not to run again in the 2025 Liechtenstein general election. So, Brigitte Haas became the VU's main candidate for prime minister.
The Patriotic Union kept its ten seats in the Landtag, which is Liechtenstein's parliament. This victory made Brigitte Haas the first woman to become Prime Minister of Liechtenstein.
Family Life
Brigitte Haas is married to Hubert Ospelt. Her cousin, Wolfgang Haas, was an archbishop in Vaduz.
Political Views
During the 2025 election, Brigitte Haas shared some of her political ideas. She stated that she did not plan to introduce an inheritance tax or a gift tax. These are taxes on money or property received from someone who has died or as a gift.
She also did not support making Radio Liechtenstein a private company. Even though her party, the VU, supported the idea, she was against the referendum to privatize it.
