Brim River facts for kids
The Brim River is a beautiful river located in the North Coast region of British Columbia, Canada. It flows into a place called Owyacumish Bay, which is at the western end of the Gardner Canal.
Near the mouth of the Brim River, you'll find the Brim River Hot Springs Protected Area. This special area has a natural hot spring that hasn't been developed for tourists. It also features amazing old-growth forests, which are very old and untouched trees. The park is about 202 hectares (500 acres) (that's roughly 500 acres) of wild backcountry. This means there are no visitor centers or facilities there, making it a truly natural experience.
How the River Got Its Name
The name "Brim River" was likely given by Captain Pender of the Royal Navy. However, no one knows for sure why he chose this name.
The local Haisla language name for the river is Uyagemis. This means 'facing west'. The Brim River and a nearby stream called Owyacumish Creek are important to the Haisla people. These areas are looked after by the person who holds the chiefly name Gwenaxnud. This person is the head of the Haisla Blackfish clan.
