The Bris Funny Fest was a fun comedy festival that happened every year in Brisbane, Australia. It ran from September 2016 to September 2019.
A person named Kath Marvelley started the festival. She wanted to create a new comedy event because the Brisbane Fringe Festival didn't happen in 2016. Many famous comedians performed there. These included Matt Okine, Andrew Lee, and Lindsay Webb.
The festival had many different kinds of comedy. You could see stand-up comedy, where someone tells jokes alone on stage. There was also improv theater, where actors make up scenes on the spot. Other types included sketch comedy and even musical comedy.
The Bris Funny Fest used an "open-access" idea, like the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. This meant performers could join easily. The festival was run by volunteers. Steven Morgan led the team in 2017. Adam O'Sullivan became the festival director in 2018. Shows took place at different spots around Brisbane. Many events happened at the Heya Bar in Fortitude Valley. Performers could find their own venues, and the organizers helped them.
Other Brisbane Comedy Festivals
Brisbane has a history of fun arts events. An earlier version of the Brisbane Fringe Festival happened from 2012 to 2015. Kylie Southwell helped direct it. Scott Black, who advised Bris Funny Fest, helped choose the comedy acts.
More recently, the Wynnum Fringe festival has been held since 2020. In 2024, other similar festivals took place in the area. These included the Brisbane Comedy Festival and Anywhere Brisbane. These festivals continue to bring laughter to the city.
