The Brittany Apartment Building is a historic building located in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio, United States. It was built in 1885 and is a great example of Queen Anne design. This six-story building has a flat roof and is made mostly of brick. It also features parts made from wood and sandstone.
The building was constructed by a company called Thomas Emery's Sons. They were very important real estate developers in Cincinnati during the 1880s. The Brittany is one of four large apartment buildings they built around that time. Today, only the Brittany and the Lombardy Apartment Buildings are still standing. Both were designed by a famous architect named Samuel Hannaford. His architectural work was becoming very well-known in the Cincinnati area back then.

A Look at its Unique Style
The building has a large cornice, which is a decorative molding along the top. It also has boxed pediments, which are triangular or rounded decorations. You'll notice many brick pilasters, which look like flat columns attached to the wall. There's also corbelling, which is a fancy way of stacking bricks to create a ledge. Plus, the building features prominent bay windows that stick out from the main wall. All these details give the Brittany its unique and historic look.
Why is the Brittany Building Historic?
In 1980, the Brittany Apartment Building was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This is a special list of places in the United States that are important because of their history or architecture. The Brittany was added because its old architecture was very well-preserved.
Part of a Historic Neighborhood
Many other buildings in Cincinnati were added to this list at the same time. This included the Lombardy Apartment Building. All these buildings were designed by Samuel Hannaford. Later that same year, the part of Ninth Street where the Brittany Apartments are located also became a historic district. This area is now known as the Ninth Street Historic District. The Brittany Apartments are considered one of the important buildings that help make this district special.
What is it Used for Today?
The Brittany Apartment Building has been updated and is now called LeBrittany. It has 15 luxury condominiums inside. These are individual homes within the larger building.
