Why is the Broad Street – Davis Park District Important?

This district is very important because of its amazing buildings. Many of them show off Victorian architecture with lots of fancy details. These buildings also tell the story of how Danielson grew and the people who helped it develop.

How Danielson Began and Grew

The town of Danielson started to grow in 1809. This was when two brothers, James and Hezekiah Danielson, built a cotton spinning mill. Hezekiah's house, built around 1825, is the oldest building in the entire district.

More textile mills were built, helping the village grow even more. The Norwich and Worcester Railroad also came through town in 1830, making it easier to transport goods. Other businesses started, and the textile mills got bigger from the 1850s onwards.

The houses in the Broad Street-Davis Park area were built by people who were doing well. They chose the newest and most popular architectural styles of their time. They built large, impressive homes. This area was also a good spot because it was higher up, offering nice views and protection from floods.

Notable Buildings in the District
