Broken Group facts for kids
The Broken Group is a super cool collection of small islands and tiny islets located in the middle of Barkley Sound. This sound is on the west coast of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. These islands are a protected area, known as the Broken Islands Group Unit, and are part of the amazing Pacific Rim National Park Reserve.
This national park reserve also includes other famous spots like Long Beach, which is between the towns of Ucluelet and Tofino. It also covers the famous West Coast Trail, a long hiking path that stretches between Port Renfrew and Bamfield. The Broken Group islands are nestled between two water channels called Imperial Eagle and Loudon Channels.

The Broken Group is made up of over 100 islands, islets, and rocky outcrops! Some of the islands you might hear about include Brabant Islands, Hand Island, Cree Island (the one furthest south), and Reeks Island (the one furthest east). It's a fantastic place for kayaking, camping, and exploring nature.
Important Islands in the Group
One very special island in the Broken Group is Benson Island. It's located on the northwest side of the group. This island holds great cultural importance for the Tseshaht First Nation, who are the Indigenous people of this land. They have a deep connection to these islands and have lived here for thousands of years.
