Where is Brooks Head Grove?

Brooks Head Grove is found in the beautiful Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This area is famous for its amazing scenery. The grove sits at the top of a small valley that leads to the River Wye. It is located south of a village called English Bicknor.

The ground here is made of special rocks called Carboniferous Lower dolomite and Lower Limestone Shales. These rocks create rich, chalky soils. This type of soil helps certain plants grow really well.

What Makes Brooks Head Grove Special?

Brooks Head Grove is part of a huge area of very old woodlands in the Wye Valley. These ancient forests are home to many rare and local plant species. It's like a natural treasure chest!

You can find some unique trees here. These include the Large-leaved Lime and the Whitebeam. You might also see Hornbeam trees. These trees are special because they are growing near the edge of their natural range in Europe. This makes Brooks Head Grove an important place for studying these plants.
