Broomhill Parish Church, now known as Broomhill Hyndland Parish Church, is a beautiful church building in the Broomhill area of Glasgow, Scotland. It was built in the early 1900s and serves as a place of worship and community gathering.

History of the Church

This church started its journey as the Broomhill United Free Church. It was built between 1902 and 1905 using strong red sandstone. The architects, Stewart & Paterson, designed it in a style called Neo-Gothic. This means it looks like older Gothic churches from the Middle Ages, but it was built much later.

The church has a special shape called cruciform, which means it looks like a cross from above. It also has a tall tower with a spire, which is a pointy top, located in the south-west corner. Before the main church was finished, a church hall was built in 1899 for meetings and activities.

Joining the Church of Scotland

In 1929, the Broomhill United Free Church became part of the Church of Scotland. From then on, it was known as Broomhill Parish Church.

A New Chapter: Broomhill Hyndland Parish Church

More recently, in 2017, something new happened. The Broomhill Parish Church joined together with another local church, Hyndland Parish Church. They decided to become one big church family, now called Broomhill Hyndland Parish Church. The Broomhill building is the main place where everyone meets for services and events.

Art and Music Inside

The church is not just a building; it's also home to some lovely artworks.

Stained Glass Windows

You can find several colourful stained glass windows inside. These windows tell stories or show beautiful patterns using pieces of coloured glass. They were created by different artists, including Guthrie & Wells, Abbey Studio of Edinburgh, and Brian Hutchison.

The Pipe Organ

The church also has a large pipe organ. This amazing musical instrument makes sound using air blown through many pipes. It was updated and made new again by a company called Harrison & Harrison in 1997, so it sounds wonderful during services.
