A Look at the Church's History
The church started as the Broomhill United Free Church. In 1929, it joined the Church of Scotland. After this, it became known as Broomhill Parish Church.
Building the Church
The church was built between 1902 and 1905. It was made from red sandstone. The church hall, a separate building, was finished earlier in 1899. Architects Stewart & Paterson designed the church. They used a style called Neo-Gothic. This style looks like old Gothic churches. The church has a special shape called "cruciform," which means it looks like a cross from above. A tall tower with a spire was added to one corner.
Joining Together
In 2017, two churches decided to become one. Hyndland Parish Church joined with Broomhill Parish Church. They formed the Broomhill Hyndland Parish Church. The Broomhill building became the main place for worship.
Art and Music Inside the Church
The church has beautiful stained glass windows. These windows were made by different artists. Some were created by Guthrie & Wells and Abbey Studio of Edinburgh. Others were designed by Brian Hutchison.
The Church Organ
The church also has a large pipe organ. This organ was updated in 1997. The company that refurbished it was Harrison & Harrison.
