Music Career
What is His Musical Style?
Brotha Lynch Hung is often called a pioneer of the horrorcore rap genre. This type of music is similar to a horror film, using scary and intense storytelling. However, Mann has said his style is more specific, calling it "rip-gut." This style focuses on telling very graphic and shocking stories through his lyrics.
First Albums with Black Market Records
In 1993, Mann signed with Black Market Records. He released his first EP, 24 Deep, which was very successful. It reached number 91 on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. In 1995, he released the album Season of da Siccness, which was even more popular, reaching number 26 on the same chart.
During the late 1990s, he also worked with other artists on the No Limit Records label. He wrote and produced music for albums like West Coast Bad Boyz II and I'm Bout It.
In 2000, Mann starred in a horror-comedy movie called Now Eat, which was based on his music. He also released an album with the same title to go with the film.
After releasing his album Loaded, Mann had disagreements with the head of his record label. The label released his next albums, EBK4 and The Virus, without his full approval. They even had other artists finish some of his incomplete songs.
Independent Releases
Mann left Black Market Records and started releasing music on his own. In 2003, he released the album Lynch by Inch: ... on his own label, Madesicc Music. He later released a collection of songs called The Ripgut Collection in 2007 and a mixtape called ... Tapes in 2008. Both of these releases were successful on the music charts.
Signing with Strange Music
In May 2009, Mann signed a deal with the record label Strange Music. With this label, he released a trilogy of albums that told a continuing story. The albums were Dinner and a Movie (2010), ... Strangla (2011), and Mannibalector (2013). After his contract ended, he decided to return to his own label.
Return to Madesicc Musicc
After leaving Strange Music, Mann continued to release music independently. He released several EPs and a collaboration album with Ren Da Heatmonsta called Premeditated in 2017.
