Shawn Thomas (born January 14, 1972), who is better known by his stage name C-Bo, is an American rapper from Sacramento, California. He is known for being one of the first rappers to face legal issues because of his song lyrics.
In 1995, C-Bo released a song called "Deadly Game" with another rapper, X-Raided. The song's lyrics talked about political issues. They criticized a California law known as the three-strikes law. Because of these lyrics, C-Bo was arrested in 1998. He argued that his lyrics were protected by his right to free speech. This right is part of the First Amendment in the U.S., which allows people to express their opinions.
Even though some charges were dropped, he still faced legal trouble. In a court in Ohio, the judge gave C-Bo probation. The judge had a special condition: C-Bo had to use his rapping skills in a Public Service Announcement.
C-Bo is also famous for working with many other rappers from California. He even appeared in several music videos for the famous rapper Tupac Shakur.
