History of Brown

Brown has an interesting past with a few different names. It was once called Siding 18, then Front, and later Mount Owen.

What's in a Name?

The name Siding 18 came from its location on a railroad track. This track was built to help with the construction of the Owens Valley aqueduct. The aqueduct is a huge system that brings water to Los Angeles.

The post office in Brown first opened in 1909. Years later, in 1948, its name changed to Mount Owen. However, this name didn't last long, and the post office closed in 1950.

The name Brown honors a person named George Brown. He was a hotelier, which means he owned or managed hotels.
