How Bruner Got Its Name
The community of Bruner was named by a man named James A. Rathbun. He moved to this region in 1862. About two years later, he started a store and a post office near where Bruner is today.
Mr. Rathbun wanted to name the post office "Rathbun" after himself. However, his first choice was not allowed because there was already another post office in Missouri named Rathbun. So, he chose "Bruner" instead, which sounds a bit like his own last name.
