Early Life and Cooking Passion

Bruno Barbieri was born on January 12, 1962. His hometown is Medicina, which is in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. When he was seven years old, his father moved to Spain. He lived there for 15 years.

His mother worked in the clothing industry. She shared her love for fashion with him. However, it was his grandmother who taught him to love food and cooking. She passed on her passion for the kitchen. Bruno went to a special high school for hospitality in Bologna. This school helped him learn more about cooking.

After finishing school, Bruno Barbieri took advanced cooking classes. He even studied abroad to learn new techniques. His first big job was at a restaurant called Locanda Solarola. This restaurant is in Castel Guelfo di Bologna. In just two years, Locanda Solarola earned two Michelin stars. This is a huge award for a restaurant!

Later, he worked at Il Trigabolo in Argenta, Emilia–Romagna. There, he worked with chef Igles Corelli, who became his friend. They were helped by Giacinto Rossetti and Mauro Gualandi.

In 2002, Bruno Barbieri opened his own restaurant, Arquade. It was located inside the Hotel Villa del Quar-Relais and Châteaux in San Pietro in Cariano. By 2006, Arquade had also earned two Michelin stars. It also received three Gambero Rosso forchette, which means 'forks'. This is another important award in Italian cooking. He left Arquade in July 2010 and moved to Brazil for a while.

In March 2012, he came back to Europe. He opened a restaurant called Cotidie in London. But he was very busy with other work. So, in 2013, he let chef Marco Tozzi take over the restaurant. In 2016, he opened another restaurant, Fourghetti, in Bologna. He later handed it over to Erik Lavacchielli in August 2020.
