Bryan Douglas, born on May 27, 1934, is a famous English former footballer. He played as a winger, which means he was a player who focused on attacking from the sides of the field.
He spent his entire club career playing for Blackburn Rovers from 1954 to 1969. During that time, he played in 438 league games and scored 100 goals! Bryan also played for the England national team, representing his country 36 times and scoring 11 goals. He even played in two World Cups, in 1958 and 1962, playing in every game for England in both tournaments.
A Special Honour at Ewood Park
In November 2012, a part of Ewood Park, which is the home stadium for Blackburn Rovers, was renamed in Bryan Douglas's honour. The "Darwen End" stand became "The Bryan Douglas Darwen End." This was a huge tribute to him.
Bryan was very proud of this honour. He mentioned that his good friend and former teammate, Ronnie Clayton, also had a part of the stadium named after him. Bryan was especially happy because he was born only 400 yards away from the Darwen End stand!
Hall of Fame
In February 2019, Bryan Douglas was one of the first seven players to be added to the Blackburn Rovers Hall of Fame. A Hall of Fame is a special place where a club or organization honours its most important and successful players or members. Being inducted means he is recognized as one of the club's all-time legends.
